Promoting the cause of public education, by assisting in all statewide activities of the Washington Education Association and by representing AEA members to the public, the school board, the administration, and the profession.

An Election Year

As the November elections draw closer, many of you are asking for information about Pro-education candidates.  Please understand that your local association is trying to remain unbiased.  WEA has put together a Pro-Education voter guide.  This is available for WEA members only.  It will ask you to enter your address and then it will provide you with a list of candidates running in your area that have demonstrated strong support for public education.  While many of the candidates support the Democrat party, WEA is endorsing a number of Republican candidates.

Education Policy is just one aspect of a candidate’s platform and I do not want to imply that it should be the driving force behind your decision.   I would also like to point out that WEA's opinions on education might be different than your own.  There are many factors that need to be considered when you cast your vote, and candidates opinions on education and education funding may not be the most important consideration for you.

If you are interested is seeing who WEA has endorsed as a strong supporter of their educational policies, please click on this link and follow the directions;

Text Box: President’s Message –

WEA & AEA ... What's in it for me? A lot, as a matter of fact.

Commonsense reforms for the WASL. Annual cost-of-living increases that help school employees keep up with inflation. A constitutional change that means local levies now need only a simple majority -- 50 percent plus one vote -- instead of the onerous 60 percent approval. A long-term initiative, known as 'Take the lead,' to reform the state's outdated approach to funding public schools. A new initiative to help our Education Support Professionals achieve a Living Wage.
But you local association can offer the greatest opportunities to insure professional security and competitive compensation by exercising the power of standing united in our own local bargaining. Local bargaining remains a priority. WEA provides individual locals and regional councils access to WEA's highly trained bargaining experts. They help enforce local contracts by appealing misguided district decisions to state labor regulators. And when local contract talks appear deadlocked, WEA stands ready to send in a team of bargaining, communication and organizing experts to help unstick negotiations and win a fair settlement for our members.
