A Negotiation Year

This is the last year that our current contract is in effect

What should you do?

The association is working to protect your basic rights as an employee. .

We want to ensure that your work environment is fair, safe and secure so you have the opportunity to better serve your student.

Become familiar with your current contract

Go to http://anacortesea.org and click on the links for negotiated agreement.  Then select our current contract.

Think about the issues that are most important to you and ask yourself “what can be done to make it better?”

Talk with your building reps and let your opinions be known.  Find out what issues can be negotiated at the local level.

We will be having a listening campaign to hear what you have to say.

Consider becoming involved in WEA.

There are some things that are beyond our control.  Consider becoming involved at the State level.

What is WEA-PAC?

WEA-PAC is Washington Education Association's Political Action Committee. WEA-PAC supports candidates, regardless of party, who champion the needs of public education. Based on input from local WEA-PAC members, WEA-PAC determines how political candidates stand on the issues that affect our members, our schools and our students. We support good candidates who are willing to stand up for public education. Candidates from local to statewide positions can and do receive assistance from WEA-PAC. School boards, city councils, the state Legislature, the governor, the superintendent of public instruction and judgeships have all been affected by WEA-PAC and its members.

Text Box: President’s Message –
Scores are in…

In schools all over Washington, teachers are being judged, harassed and disciplined because student achievement scores came in low.

Do you feel as if student assessment scores are being used as an evaluation of your job performance?

Are you starting to have a sense of competition rather than collaboration with your colleagues?

TEACHER PROTECTION: No employee shall be disciplined without cause. Other than informal verbal warnings, information forming the basis of the reprimand will be in writing.

Student performance on standardized tests is not cause for discipline..

If you feel that you are being disciplined or treated unfairly because of student assessment scores, speak to your building rep.

An employee has the right to have a representative from the Association and/or counsel present when formally being reprimanded, warned, or disciplined. An employee attending a meeting during which he/she reasonably believes discipline may result has the right to request representation. When such a request is made the employer will either grant the request or discontinue the meeting.
Any discipline shall be subject to the grievance procedure hereinafter set forth except that non-renewal or discharge shall be handled in accordance with statutory procedures
